Visitors:
10 people visited the hawkwatch today.
Weather:
It was a quite pleasant day at the summit today. Winds were mostly light from the NW, with a high temperature in the upper 30's. Visibility under a sunny sky was very good to excellent throughout the day.
Raptor Observations:
Turkey Vultures ruled the day. Up to 5 local Bald Eagles were regularly seen throughout the day, along with a Red-tailed Hawk that seemed to be looking for treats all day. A displaying Cooper's Hawk was observed in the late afternoon. But, the real treat was the Red-shouldered Hawk that appeared over the summit to be counted as the last migrant today.
Non-raptor Observations:
21 species were seen from the summit today. Our first flock of 12 Canada Geese was counted, along with 1 Pine Siskin and 3 Purple Finches. A group of 4 Eastern Bluebirds brightened up the lunch hour by landing in the trees around the summit for a few minutes allowing for good photographic opportunities. Other birds deemed migrating included 13 American Goldfinches and 2 European Starlings
Predictions:
Storm's acomin' (again). Looks like winds tomorrow will be gusting stronger once again, from the north and northeast. Clouds will increase throughout the day ahead of the developing snow. We should get a whole day of hawkwatching in, and hope that a few birds will be moving ahead of the weather, but NE winds are not ideal.
