RE: [Maine-birds] Space on Bar Harbor Pelagic Trip (16 October)

Yeah, what Doug said. Anything can happen this time of year. I was out on the boat today, getting good looks at a Sabine's gull circling around some whales.

Subject: [Maine-birds] Space on Bar Harbor Pelagic Trip (16 October)

Hi all:

I just wanted to make a quick plug for an upcoming pelagic trip with Maine Audubon out of Bar Harbor on Saturday, October 16th.

This trip is a rescheduling of the September 11th trip that was cancelled due to rough seas. We expect the species we encounter to be slightly different given the late date, with more Northern Fulmar and Black-legged Kittiwakes, but fewer storm-petrels or phalaropes. Great Skua, which has become our primary target for this trip, has been seen on October trips in the past, but may not be as reliable as we have found it to be in mid September. That said, there are very few trips going out this late (it looks like there is still space on Derek's trip this Monday out of Boothbay too) and we've got a lot to learn about what birds are using the Gulf of Maine during this time of the year… who knows what we might find!

Thanks,

Doug Hitchcox
