Weather:
I must have looked at the wrong graph yesterday when I said clouds should be increasing during the day. Clouds had the entire region pretty well covered by the time I arrived. Air temps were mild in the 30's. Calm still air in the morning was short lived as a breeze from the SE picked up. By later in the day winds were a little stronger and steady, chilling the air and stealing body heat. Visibility was good overall and despite the clouds the snow cover provided additional lighting from below.
Raptor Observations:
A slower day for raptors. It was late morning before I saw a single bird of prey. Local 'tails, 'shoulder and Coop were out for a little while but retreated to the forests for the last few hours of the count period.
Non-raptor Observations:
Lots of non raptors seemed to be moving ahead of the wet weather that was lingering to our SW. Just over 3000 Canada Geese were counted which helped pass the time. 8 Killdeer made an appearance and a couple Cormorant species. A handful of other passerines, such as American Robins and Red-winged Blackbirds were also starting to move.
Predictions:
Clouds should give way to more sun tomorrow with increasing temps which could reach the upper 40's. Hopefully the NW winds remain light and the raptors take to the skies. I think it should be a more productive and pleasant day tomorrow.
