Visitors:5 Visitors. The park was dead.
Weather:I managed to stay dry today and never encountered the passing showers I was preparing for thankfully. I did however have a light but brief snow shower at the outset. Skies were cloudy for the most part. In the afternoon there were a few breaks revealing some pockets of blue sky. Winds were hardly noticeable until the late afternoon when a light NNW breeze was felt on occasion. Visibility was good.
Raptor Observations:Despite feeling like I saw nothing today, we did manage to scrounge for a total of 12. A group of TV's helped put numbers on the board. With winds being so light and probably very little thermal activity, TV's had to work a little harder and flap a little longer to get where they were headed. Most birds remained pretty low today.
Non-raptor Observations:When the vehicle traffic subsided, the summit felt a bit like a sensory deprivation tank. Today was about as quiet as the summit gets during the count season. A couple highlights today were the 7 Fish Crows all mixing it up as they came over the mountain from the N, calling back and forth as they went. The other bird of note was the Rock Pigeon headed inland to the W. This bird was very dark overall with just a hint of white on its wings. We don't see many of them from this count site. Birds moving north included: 4 American Goldfinch 3 Canada Geese 1 Common Grackle 19 species were seen or heard.
Predictions:Tomorrow looks fun. Light winds from the NW switch around to more S by the afternoon. Temps should be comfortable and in the 40's. Spotting could be tricky if we are short on cloud cover as predicted but good for thermals.
