The injured/sick eagle was first spotted by Denise Bluhm and Amy Ruksznis when they were out snowshoeing on 1/1/2014. They contacted Avian Haven and a game warden was dispatched, but he was unable to relocate the eagle. Amy, Denise, their neighbor Brian and I went back out today to try and find the bird, and we found him approx 100 feet from the original sighting. We decided on a plan to fan out as we approached the eagle so that he had nowhere to go except up into deep snow and woods. The plan worked, and Brian was able to catch up to the eagle and throw a blanket over him.
The eagle is now resting at Avian Haven after receiving antibiotics, a lead chelating agent and fluids. He's suffering from lead poisoning and also shows wounds on his head and foot-perhaps from fighting with another eagle.
