[Maine-birds] Re: bluebirds

Hi Peter, In Kittery Point I know of 3 separate overwintering bluebird flocks just within a few miles of my house. They've been growing steadily for years. Aside from feasting on berries, there's one place down the street from me at the end of a small tidal creek where I occasionally see them catching little flies on the snow, which I assume rise out of the grasses edging the tidewater. I also see them visiting winter construction sites, where freshly overturned earth is exposed. —Phillip

I've been seeing 1 - 9 bluebirds at various locations in Sagadahoc County on a regular basis, e.g., 9 today in Dresden.  They appear to be more widespread than in recent years.

I'd be interested whether others are also seeing bluebirds with greater frequency, despite the cold weather.

Best, Peter
