[Maine-birds] Rough-legged Hawk, Iceland Gulls, Barred Owl - Jan 13

One of the reported Rough-legged Hawks was active and seen perched and hunting over Weskeag Marsh at about 11 A.M.  This bird's tail pattern (bright white with black band near tip) was especially visible with backlighting.  Lower underparts not very dark on this one.  Also a very actively hunting Red-Tailed Hawk.

At times it seemed the Iceland Gulls (5) outnumbered the Herring Gulls at Owls Head Harbor.  There at low water, bubblers not working, and not too many gulls over-all.

A Barred Owl was posing along the edge of the small field across from the Lobster House in Phippsburg, in the late afternoon.  This is a spot where these have often been seen in recent years.
