Yesterday (5 Jul), I went to see if I could see/hear the King Rail on Eldridge Rd again around 7 am but struck out. I decided to go back in the early evening and within minutes found the rail vocalizing, a little bit further up the road. Coming from Webhannet on Eldridge Rd, it was up near the first curve in the marsh on the right. It was vocalizing a lot. It was about 4 feet from where I stood on the roadside the entire time. It would go silent for a minute or so and seemed to relocate a short distance away and then vocalize for 20 to 30 minutes and then repeat the process. I listened to it from 5:15 to 7:15 thinking it would eventually come out where I could see it but it never did. The marsh grass was very thick and I was unable to locate it in the brush. Finally gave up when it went completely silent. Frustrating, but interesting to hear its various vocalizations.
