[Maine-birds] No Mew Gull, 2/3 Midday

An update on the Owl's Head Harbor Mew Gull from 2/3 - I was with several other birders who did not see the Mew Gull from about 10:30 to 2 PM.  Tide was reasonably low but rising during this time.  It was pretty slow during that time with few gulls and no white-winged gulls.  Even a quick stop at the light house did not yield a single gull of any species.

Alas the Mew Gull was my second miss of the day.  I started pre-dawn trying for the Bullock's Oriole in Camden (with the homeowner's prior permission to start before 8 AM), leaving at 10:45 with no luck.  Good to see others saw the bird after I left.  The homeowner at 4 Central St said she did not have the bird the previous day - in fact no birds came to her feeder at all.  During the time I was there almost no birds of any species were present.

And a second location to try for the Oriole if your luck finding this bird is as bad as mine - a house at the northwest corner of Central and Cross St. has a suet feeder out back and a seed feeder.  Their feeders were very active on 2/3, and visible from the road.  The friendly homeowner came out when he noticed my binocs.  He mentioned the Bullock's has been regular there between 9:30 and 10:30, though less so in the last week.

My best birds of the day were woodpeckers - a pair of Red-bellies (male and female) and a flyover Flicker.
