[Maine-birds] Red-bellied Woodpecker

Red-bellied Woodpecker "frozen " at my one sunflower seed feeder in my little front yard just now. Plain belly, total red cap. It stayed motionless for more than 5 minutes. Never eating. Obviously a feeder hawk in the area; more little birds than I knew were around flew up and into my blue spruce or elsewhere in the woods. The woodpecker must have thought he was making himself look like part of the feeder, a perfect fit. I got an average photo through the window. I hope it flew away. I never saw a hawk. The little birds have now returned.

Barbara in Sanford, near Alfred.
