[Maine-birds] access info for Ash-throated Flycatcher at Biddeford Pool

I'm happy to see Charles' earlier post about how respectful of the Ash-throated Flycatchers everyone was being today, but I wanted to pass along some advice on accessing the location that the bird was apparently seen through most of the day.

First, I want to acknowledge that the Abenakee Golf Club has been a great neighbor adjacent to Maine Audubon's East Point Sanctuary, and helped with a lot of the invasive plant removal that has happened there in the last few years. The golf course has a few features that are attractive to a variety of birds, and thus birders, and we've dealt with a few trespassing issues over the years so I hope everyone will do their best to help keep this a birder-friendly spot. This is especially true with the Ash-throated because, as I hope people noticed today, St. Martin's Lane is a private road, and is posted, so birders should be extra considerate when visiting there.

I reached out to Robert Searle, the Superintendent at Abenakee Club, earlier today to get his advice for anyone pursuing this bird. He recommending that everyone park on Lester B Orcutt Blvd and walk up St. Martin's Ln. Most (all?) reports from today were from the cemetery behind this church, which is a bit east of the "Biddeford Pool--Stonecliff Rd. thickets" hotspot that folks may see being used in eBird. It is probably better to walk in on St Martin's Ln than cut across the gold course via Stonecliff Road. Robert also recommended not going any further up St Martin's Road than the church because there are a couple construction projects there, and with the steady flow of trucks in and out, that would likely be the area of greatest congestion.

Hope this helps and good fall birding,
