Weather:
The air was still and the visibility crisp this morning. Temps remained mild all day, in the 50's. Not as much clearing as I had hoped for but there were a few small patches of blue sky late morning. Thermal production seemed to be minimal judging by relatively low flights and rising smoke which tended to spread left and right instead of up. Winds shifted around from east southeast and west southwest in the afternoon. Around 3pm some rain started to fall. The radar looked like it would be around for the remainder of the count and by 3:30 on the way down the mountain it started to become more steady. I don't feel to guilty about closing early, since the flight had come to an abrupt halt by that point.

Raptor Observations:
It was a good day for some of our smaller raptors, as Sharp-shinned and Kestrels made up the bulk of the numbers but also a good effort by Harriers and Osprey. The skies appeared mostly empty until you buried your eye in the scope which is how most of the birds were spotted today. Everything seemed to be staying away from the mountain for most of the day. The afternoon hours had a few closer birds over the summit including a nice adult male Harrier. I would say we are firmly into Broad-wing season now.

Non-raptor Observations:
A calling Hermit Thrush was a first for the season at the summit today. Other birds deemed migrating included: 189 Double-crested cormorants 96 Blackbird spp. 20 Common Grackles 14 Red-winged blackbirds 14 Tree Swallows 7 American Robins 5 Great Blue Herons 4 Belted Kingfishers 3 Common Loons 1 Eastern Bluebird 1 American Goldfinch

Predictions:
It could be a start and stop kind of day tomorrow. There is a decent chance of rain throughout the day. The start could be delayed unless it is a very light drizzle. A light drizzle but combined with the predicted northeast winds around 10 mph may make me hesitate. Temps will be lower, in the 40's
