Visitors:
44 visitors to the count site today.

Weather:
It was a pretty chilly day at the mountain. NW winds remained fairly strong all day with occasional gusts. Temps barley crawled above 45 degrees. There was a little more sun than I thought we'd see but it was mostly cloudy skies today. In the afternoon we were treated by some off and on snow flurries which were very light and brief. Visibility switched back and forth from good to excellent with the passing cloud cover.

Raptor Observations:
A pretty slow day for mid April considering it was a full day with no rain or fog. The winds seemed to be the biggest factor in keeping birds grounded. Birds were scattered about the sky and being pushed around by the gusty winds. A group of four Eagles were seen throughout the day and on a couple of occasions seemed to be able to find substantial lift as they were spotted high above our heads.

Non-raptor Observations:
19 species were seen or heard today. Bird song quickly dissipated early this morning as the winds became stronger. It may have been a combination of birds sheltering and the sound of wind through the pines which made detection difficult. Just before 1pm I spotted a lone Sandhill Crane gliding and flapping as it moved into a headwind off to the east of the summit. I felt frustrated for the bird which was making deathly slow forward progress.

Predictions:
Tomorrow looks like a more comfortable day, with lighter wind coming from the north northwest in the morning and swinging around to the southeast for the afternoon. Clouds should be minimal for much of the day with skies filling in later on as more wet weather approaches for the evening. Temperatures should be in the upper 40's. Hopefully the winds stay very light so birds aren't pushed towards the coast in the morning hours and maybe the afternoon winds could blow in another Peregrine for us.
