Visitors:
17 visitors. Thanks for sticking around to help search despite us all knowing there wasn't anything out there. A show of solidarity.
Weather:
A mix of clouds and sun with much clearer skies in the afternoon. Temps jumped up and down a little today with a high of 50. Winds were very strong and gusty from the WNW for most of the day. There was a slight reprieve in the late afternoon hours. Visibility was not great given the amount of heat shimmer.
Raptor Observations:
I'd rather not talk about today. There are better days ahead. It was frustratingly slow with not much to see and also having to deal with blustery conditions. The same pairs of Eagles and Red-tails kept appearing over and over again. Local Coop was displaying on occasion. Birds were not very close today either with the exception of a flyby pair of mature Eagles which fortunately were witnessed by a few onlookers.
Non-raptor Observations:
Cedar waxwings welcomed me to the mountain today as they were feeding on what few juniper berries remained on the scraggly bushes. No new arrivals and only 17 species were seen or heard.
Predictions:
Sorry to sound negative here but I'm not really looking forward to tomorrow. More strong and gusty winds, this time coming straight off the ocean from the southeast. Air temps may be cooler than today too, in the upper 40's and I'm willing to bet it's going to feel pretty chilly. Clouds should be increasing during the day. Definitely bring more layers than you think you'll need if you plan on coming up. It could be worse and I'm happy to be outside. Let's see what the day holds.
