I was at the 1/2 mile beach in Reid State Park Monday for 3 hours with an incoming tide. Saw very few birds compared to what I expected, no Terns yet.
2 shorebirds but even with a poor view I don't believe they were Plovers. Legs were too long.
There was a Bald Eagle most of the time we were there. Soaring over the ocean and then, as the tide came in, over the river.
One tree swallow was seen zooming by. I would say no gulls at all but there must have been some distant ones. The ledges between the beaches had no Cormorants or Gulls.
The storms have had a devastating impact on the beach. Most of the sand which formed the beach slope and much of the dunes is gone.
We left 3 hours before high tide and ~80% of what was above water at low tide was under shallow water. Looked like waves will be lapping at the dunes at high tide. No beach will be left.
As we were walking to the parking lot it appeared there was an Osprey joining the Eagle over the Little River.
I'm hoping normal sand migration will replenish some of the beach but will there be anything for the Plovers to eat?
