[Maine-birds] Heron Help

I am driving through Kansas on my way home and saw what looked like a blue heron flying up from a marsh. However, this heron has alternating colors (dark and white) on the underside of its wings. Has anyone ever heard of a white morph mixing with a standard great blue?  Or was this a different bird?  Sorry, no picture; I was driving.
