Phippsburg Maine Map 6 Totman Cove
I might have it today for the coldest birding on record, certainly for me. Temp remains below zero, -10 when I got up with wind chill of -20, according to my weather station here on subarctic Totman Cove. We got 8-10 for snow. The cove is beginning to freeze over, a rarity for open ocean that never flats out (that means always has water for you flat landers needing interpretation of "coastaleze.").
Twenty four species (full list at link below), of note:
Bald eagles 4 VERY busy strafing ducks,
NO Rusty today. :( Have had very aggressive Cooper's that has snagged birds 10 feet from the door which could account for the lack of Rusty today.
Crows so hungry that they were also hunkered down only about 30 feet from the house. One was noted to have what looked like an eye frozen shut. Photo below. I don't think it was feeling well as it was very slow to take off and you know how cagey they are!
And, a Belted Kingfisher, male landed on the gallows frame of my pier. Or, maybe that was a penguin, I can't be sure.
