Hi all,
Andrew Wolfgang and I are enjoying a great morning of birding in Portland, highlighted by a BLACK VULTURE that just passed overhead of us here at the Fish Pier in Old Port as we waited for a tardy GLAUCOUS GULL to reappear.
The vulture was high over the Casco Bay Bridge, flew into Portland, right over our heads at the Fish Pier, then back across the river where it caught a thermal over Bug Light Park in South Portland. We lost sight of it as it gained altitude. Jeannette is at the Hawkwatch this morning and had been alerted in case it continues northward.
Other highlights today included 14 RED CROSSBILLS at Evergreen Cemetery (thanks to Brendan MacKay), a pair of ORCHARD ORIOLES a returning to Capisic Pond Park, and lots of personal FOYs.
