Re: [Maine-birds] Kennebunk Plains

The fire, as you all probably know by now,
was not on The Kennebunk Plains, but not far from there, down the road a mile or 3 and across the road. Rt 99. As of tonight, the news reports it is out, but will be watched for burning embers.  The area is all ashes and burned trees. 314 acres going into 3 towns. No houses affected it seems. I wonder about birds, presumably not ground dwellers, like Uppies in woods. Smoke affecting the Plains ?
This info is from the news. I have not been over there, as you may have.

It is my understanding that there is a fairly significant fire in that area right now.  Hoping that they are able to get it under control, that homes in the area are not affected, and that wildlife are OK.  I suggest checking news reports (although it is not yet in the news I am sure it will be) before going to bird there.

many Field Sparrows at K. Plains this morning.  Also Vesper Sparrows, half a dozen Towhees and one Upland Sandpiper.
