[Maine-birds] Parsons Beach terns and shorebirds

Lots of tern action off Parsons Beach in Kennebunk the last few nights. The breakwaters off the mouth of the Mousam River between Kennebunk Beach and Parsons Beach are loaded with roosting Common Terns, the Least Tern colony at the other end of Parsons at the mouth of the Little River is getting going, so lots of terns about. Last night, Sunday 5/20, I had two ROSEATE TERNS. Tonight Monday 5/21 I had a sharp alternate plumage BLACK TERN, along with the first real push of shorebirds through the marsh, with various molts of Black-bellied Plover, and a large flock of about 60 Short-billed Dowitcher. Just as I was throughly nerding out on Short-billed Dowitcher subspecies ID (I'll assume griseus is the expected one through Maine, as these all seemed to be), an leashed dog in the marsh put the dowitchers into flight and the three note tuktuktuk repeated call was cool to hear as the flock passed overhead. A small flock of Atlantic Brant headed right over my head at the Mousam River mouth and up into the marsh was another highlight of this gorgeous evening to be outside.
