I'm sure others could give a far more comprehensive and extensive report than I, so all I'm going to say is that today was an amazing day of birding. Despite the fog and intermittent rain, we enjoyed wonderful warbler watching pretty much all day, but especially this morning after breakfast in the spruces near the Trailing Yew, across from the grocery store, and in the apple trees at the Monhegan House. Highlight was seeing such species as Bay-breasted, Blackburnian, and Magnolia Warblers and American Redstarts up close and down low, glowing in the fog, as we stood in one spot for over two hours. Added Palm, Tennessee, and Canada Warblers to my list today, up to 22 species total. Other notable birds included a bright Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, our first sapsucker of the trip, Chimney Swifts (first thing this morning), a single Purple Martin flying around the Island Inn early this afternoon, and I finally got on that White-eyed Vireo. Cedar Waxwings showed up in numbers too.
I heard second-hand and too late of a GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER seen today, but know no details, alas (that's one of my favorites).
