[Maine-birds] Peregrine

1 June 2018
There was a Peregrine sitting on the edge of the nesting ledge on Ironbound Island (Frenchman Bay) today. The bird had a number of down feathers protruding from the breast area and there were feathers mixed in with the grass on the nesting ledge. It gave the impression that the bird might have been nest building. A pair fledged three young at that site in 2016 (four hatched but the younger bird disappeared before fledging) and did not nest there in 2017. A male Peregrine was seen chasing a Bald Eagle away from the area two weeks ago. Photo will be on the Maine Birds Facebook page.
