One of our boat captains, a non birder, asked me whether or not it was too early for an immature Gannet. He observed an all brown "gannet" on Egg Rock in Frenchman Bay for two days (Tuesday and Wednesday 5/29-30) last week. The naturalist on the nature cruise of another company also reported a similar bird at the same location. The bird was sitting at the edge of the gull colony at the east end of the island each time. I did not see this bird and looked for yesterday 6/2 without seeing it. We passed the Acadian Birding Festival pelagic trip as they returned to Bar Harbor after seeing their Brown Booby sighting off Schoodic I. just 6 miles away.
