[Maine-birds] Additional Highlights and Shorebird High Counts this Week, 9/1-7

Hi all,

Some additional observations of note from me in the past seven days, not previously reported here, included:

- 1 adult and 1 3rd year LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS, Pine Point, Scarborough, 9/2.

- 5 Northern Shovelers, Eastern Road Trail, Scarborough Marsh, 9/2.

- 1 immature Northern Goshawk, Burnt Meadow Mountain, Brownfield, 9/3 (with Jeannette).

- 1 MUTE SWAN, Legion Pond, Kittery, 9/4 (with Jeannette).

- 4 Carolina Wrens, Fort Foster, Kittery, 9/4 (with Jeannette).

- 1 immature Peregrine Falcon, Wells Harbor jetty, 9/4 (with Jeannette).

- 3 adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS, Laudholm Beach, Wells, 9/4 (with Jeannette).

- 1 Lincoln's Sparrow, first of fall, Florida Lake Park, Freeport, 9/7.

 

And my shorebird high counts this week (no Biddeford Pool visit):

 

Black-bellied Plover: 72 (including first juveniles of the year) Pine Point, Scarborough, 9/2.

AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER: 2 adults, Harbor Road, Fryeburg Harbor, 9/3 (with Jeannette).

Semipalmated Plover: 140, Pine Point, 9/2.

Killdeer: 31, Mayall Road, Gray/New Gloucester, 9/3 (with Jeannette).

AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHER: 2 adults and 1 juvenile, Pine Point, 9/2.

Greater Yellowlegs: 29, Eastern Road Trail, 9/2.

Lesser Yellowlegs: 28, Eastern Road Trail, 9/2.

Solitary Sandpiper: 1 juvenile, Harbor Road, Fryeburg Harbor, 9/3 (with Jeannette).

"Eastern" Willet: 4, Pine Point, 9/2.

Whimbrel: 1, Sandy Point Beach, Cousin's Island, Yarmouth, 9/1 (with Ken Klapper), and 1 juvenile, Pine Point, 9/2.

Ruddy Turnstone: 2 juveniles, Pine Point, 9/2.

Sanderling: 38, Ogunquit Beach, Ogunquit, 9/4 (with Jeannette).

Semipalmated Sandpiper: 275 (about 75% juvenile), Pine Point, 9/2.

Least Sandpiper: 40+, Eastern Road Trail, 9/2.

White-rumped Sandpiper: 5, Pine Point, 9/2.

BAIRD'S SANDPIPER: 1, Harbor Road, Fryeburg Harbor, 9/3 (with Jeannette), and 1, Long Sands Beach, York, 9/4 (with Jeannette).

Pectoral Sandpiper: 6, Eastern Road Trail, 9/2.

STILT SANDPIPER: _12_!!! juveniles and molting immatures, Eastern Road Trail, 9/2 (personal state high count).

BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER: 2 juveniles, Harbor Road, Fryeburg Harbor, 9/3 (with Jeannette).

Short-billed Dowitcher: 25 (one adult), Pine Point, 9/2.
