[Maine-birds] Weskeag again

Hi all -- I had a chance to peek around Weskeag from the parking pad yesterday, too. A flock of 25 peeps went unidentified, but I found one of Bruce's Solitary's, plus a sleeping Willet. My count of Snowies was 43, and Greats were 9. In addition to the juv Harrier was a Red-tailed Hawk.

At Howe Pt / Ducktrap Outlet in Northport, 17 R-n Grebes were "on station" where I've seen them for several years, plus 15 Bonies.

In Wiscasset, 2 Common Nighthawks overhead and 5 Semipalmated Plovers dozing through the high tide right under the Sheepscot Bridge abutment.

Cheers,

Bet you knew I wouldn't hang up my 'scope this shorebird season, didn't ya?  Not that it improved my numbers much.

I did have a first today, though:  more solitary sandpipers (3) than least (2) :).  I arrived at Westkeag shortly after low tide, which isn't the best time to tour this pretty spot, so high tide might be better.  But I couldn't scare up a pectoral in the near ponds, and never went past these as there didn't seem to be a single shorebird.  Lots of herons, though.  At least 15 great egrets and twice that number of snowy.  Six great blues and a dozen or so double-breasted cormorants.  And a kingfisher.

Nice day to be outside, though, and the coffee's still great at the Thomaston Cafe.

Cheers,
bab
