[Maine-birds] Highlights, Schoodic Point, 5.1.15 - 5.3.15

Sorry for the late post. My husband and I spent the past weekend on Schoodic Point. We hiked the Sundew Trail on the Schoodic Institute campus, the Alder Trail, and around Little Moose Island. Birding highlights of the weekend included:

Near Frazer Point Picnic Area-- 
Ruffed Grouse - 1 "budding" up in a tree at dusk

Sundew Trail and campus--
Harlequin Duck - 1 pair off the Ocean Bench
Ruby-crowned Kinglet - 6
FOY Hermit Thrush -1
FOY Winter Wren - 1
FOY Savannah Sparrow - 6

And of course there's always a porcupine. Also, Snowshoe Hares.

Alder Trail--
Ruffed Grouse - 2 drumming
Northern Harrier - 1 fem. flying low over the trail, oddly
Common Raven - 1
Ruby-crowned Kinglet - 15
Hermit Thrush - 2
FOY Blue-headed Vireo - 1
Yellow-rumped Warbler - 15+
Palm Warbler - 10
Purple Finch - 2 singing

Little Moose Island--
Black Scoter - 100+
Hermit Thrush - 3
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 
Yellow-rumped Warbler - 3
Savannah Sparrow 

In a low water area off the park road--
Greater Yellowlegs - 3
