[Maine-birds] Safety back-ups for camera straps/connectors

I use L-brackets on my cameras and very much like to have them lie relatively "flat" when on a shoulder strap.  So I bought a small screwclamp for Arca-Swiss tripod mounts from RRS (http://www.reallyrightstuff.com/B2-FABN-38mm-Screw-knob-clamp-with-strap-bossesz) and mounted same on the vertical bar of the L-Bracket.  I used a Black Rapid u-bolt and locking carabiner as the connection to a shoulder strap (which I made myself.)   Here's a photo:  https://flic.kr/p/MXqCNe.  You can see how the camera would lay close to my hip, out of the way of binocs and errant tree stumps.

Also note the safety cord, which is a short piece of 5mm Perlon, a material used in climbing ropes.  All my cameras have such a loop and I use them with regular straps as well .. never know, and they're much stronger and longer-lasting than shoe laces :).

If you're wondering what I do when I want to use the vertical camera orientation, the RRS screwclamp is easy to remove, even with gloves, and slides out of the way.  The Perlon loop keeps it handy for replacement.  A photo of same:  https://flic.kr/p/NsY3i1.

This arrangement, of course, would only be appropriate for those Arca-Swiss tripod heads, but hopefully some suggestions, especially the Perlon loop, would be applicable to your own camera strap arrangements.
