[Maine-birds] Biddeford Pool birds

Finally took my kayak out on Biddeford pool today, just after low tide. Good numbers of shorebirds, the highlights being 7 Willet, 6 Whimbrel, 8 Red Knots, 1 American Golden Plover, 1 Baird's Sandpiper, 35 White-rumped Sandpipers, 2 Western Sandpipers and 2 Peregrine Falcons, an adult and a juvenile. The adult came in first and swiped a peep out of the flock on its first pass, the juvenile came later and made about a dozen passes before finally nabbing a peep it singled out from the flock.

Seawatching from East Point was also productive, with over 100 Northern Gannets, 2 Manx's Shearwaters, 4 White-winged Scoters, 1 Forster's Tern, 1 Red-necked Grebe and about 250 Red-necked Phalarope heading south. I also saw a flock of what appeared to be Red Phalarope, as they appeared a bit larger, paler gray above and bright white under the wings. How common are Red Phalarope in-shore in southern Maine?

Good Birding
