[Maine-birds] Semipalmated zoompiper?

Or perhaps Calidris roadrunnerii  :)

If the attachement doesn't come through you can see the photo here:  http://www.flickr.com/photos/bbartrug/7929126604/in/photostream

The 'pipers were acting like wind-up toys on speed yesterday at Biddeford Beach.  Yes, they were avoiding both the incoming tide and the many beach walkers, but even then they seemed in hyper drive.  Even with average shutter speeds of 1/6000 second I had quite a few images slightly out of focus.  The autofocus couldn't quite keep up even at six frames a second.  You can see the bird in this image is actually slightly ahead of the focal plane.  Perhaps the season has them itchy to be on their way to the southern hemisphere.

Cheers,
bab
