I went to UNH today to pick up my daughter. We arrived early and the friendly folks at the apple farm outside town directed us to Wagon Hill Farm, which was purchased by the town of Durham and preserved. It features several winding paths through fields down to the bay.
While there, we spotted a number of Eastern Bluebirds in the field, and a flock of winter-plumage Snow Buntings flew overhead, lit briefly in the top of a tree, then flew off.
As we turned to head back, I heard a honking overhead. We looked up to see three white swans, with incredibly long necks, flying in a line and calling in a goose-like manner. Naturally I did not have a camera, but I did have my binoculars, and could see that they were pure white and the face and bill pure black. The neck was straight outstretched. I have listened to the call on the Cornell website and have concluded that they were Tundra Swans.
