[Maine-birds] pelican and peregrine eBird Report - ST George Long Cove, Sep 14, 2013

Got the pelican, at some distance so not satisfying photographically but birding wise all the right stuff. Lots of other birds around for passing the time and other birders with whom to chat. Hats off to the home owner, Susan Hoyt for her hospitality.
Also, stopped in Thomaston at the Slipway on the St. George river for fried oysters. This is a must stop if one is headed past there. Best fried oysters on planet earth with various homemade brilliant aiolis. And, what's not to love to be able to bird and gnosh at the same time? They have a wharf and dining area that sticks out into the mouth of the river. Tide was out leaving the mouth of the river almost all mud flats. Plenty of shorebirds, about 130 various (BBplovs, SPplovs, least sands, SPsands, and so on). Suddenly a Peregrine falcon appeared and bombed the peeps over and over for about 5 mins! Didn't get any, but not for lack of trying. And sure made the Herrings and Bonnies loafing around nervous! Great show, and me with a mouth full of oysters but not the camera. Oh well, how sorry could I feel for myself, huh?
