[Maine-birds] Hermit Island - Sep 24 - Western Kingbird and GC Thrush

Camped overnight at Hermit Island, expecting a better flight this morning on predicted WNW winds.  Only a moderate showing, late starting to boot.  Warbler diversity very low.

But photos of a high perched Western Kingbird, and a skulking thrush that reacted strongly to a Gray Cheeked playback.  Did the best I could do for photos, but the midsection of the bird is the best represented.  It was in the company of several Swainson's Thrushes, whose numbers were high this morning.  There were no Hermits.

Also chased and photo'd a Vireo that looked suspiciously like a Cassin's.  This will be a tough sell, however.  There were many Blue-Headeds around this morning, and some might have been young-of-the-year with greenish crowns.

Kind of a weird morning.  The sun didn't start to light up the eastern side of the peninsula until after 8 A.M, and that was when things started to show up.  There was no detectable flight off the ocean, as is typical for this time of year.  There were zero birds leaving the apple/oak tree at the northern tip of the peninsula, so I have to think maybe everything down there is lingering for the day.
