[Maine-birds] Wild morning at Popham Beach - Sep 05

Some of these obs are due to my being the first one into the lot and onto the beach this morning.  I was alone for an hour and a half.  Left SLR in truck due to rain.  Highlights:

- 3 Peregrines (2 Ad; 1 Juv) basically forcing the evacuation of most peeps from the area.  The adults were team-hunting over the Borrow Pit area as I arrived.  (Juvie digiscoped)

- 2 Caspian Terns, both adults) were heard well before being seen.  Flew on west toward Seawall Beach, Sprague River mouth prob.

- 1 Hudsonian Godwit, loafing with large gull flock, flushed (along with the gulls) by circling Bgl.  Flew directly overhead, then headed west.  Flew over Morse Mt., and is probably still going.

- 4 Com Terns fishing in mouth of Morse R w/ solo juv Bonie.  These have been very scarce here lately

- 5 Pectoral Sands;  Still no Buffie here this fall, but the presence of these brings hope for some "grass-peeps" soon.

- 1 Bobolink in dune grass on New Sand I.

- Altho' numbers of all peeps were down (due to prgr), the Sanderlings are now mostly juvies.

- no sign of piping plovers
