[Maine-birds] Fox Sparrow and White wing gulls in South Portland

I just enjoyed watching 2 beautiful Fox Sparrows “double scratching” under my white spruce tree and then in the open under my feeder.

Earlier (about noon) there were two Glaucous and two Iceland white wing gulls in Mill Cove by Hannaford’s - very close to shore - in the water and on the little bit of grassy area left between the railing of the parking lot and high tide water.   I will post pictures of the gulls on Flickr later if anyone is interested in aging them - I am not very good at aging gulls so I will not try but what I can say is that they were not  Adults !!!!!!   :- )

Also, several Red-breasted Mergs where courting in the cove .   The usual Mallards and Black Ducks where there I numbers - I did not catch sight of any species of more interest.
