Weather:
It wasn't very nice out. Gusty and increasing winds varied from the east to
the SSE before becoming moderately-strong east by the end of today's count.
A few sprinkles and brief showers after 2pm (EDT) gave way to steady rain
and poor visibility by 2:45, bringing today's count to a soggy end.
Raptor Observations:
Just a few migrants pushed ahead of the approaching system, and even most
local birds took cover today.
Non-raptor Observations:
26 species were seen and/or heard from the summit today, with other
migrants limited to:
12 Double-crested Cormorants
7 Canada Geese
1 Belted Kingfisher
1 Yellow-rumped Warbler
Predictions:
A (perhaps very) wet start to the day as a large area of low pressure
centered just north of the Great Lakes takes hold of our weather. A
secondary area of low pressure is expected to form off the Mid-Atlantic,
and deepen in the Gulf of Maine overnight spinning a lot of rain and wind
our way. Intriguing however, is the forecasted dry slot with warm
temperatures and southerly winds that might reach the area tomorrow
afternoon. If that makes it here, we could get a few hours of productive
hawkwatching in. If it doesn't make it here, we'll catch up on our
reading.
