Always one of my favorite signs of the seasons changing and every year it stays the same, the ice goes out of the pond and the loons return within a couple hours or less. Such a great sound to hear. Today was the day! The mated pair we have every year returned this afternoon and they were joined by a welcome third before sunset. We've speculated that the third one is their offspring from a few years ago. Number 3 seems to stick around and help drive off other loon couples looking to nest before taking off and just coming to visit a few times. It's the only one they seem to like having around and go fishing with. Not sure if maybe he hasn't settled down with a mate of his own yet. Pure speculation on our part. Anyone with any insight on that? Thanks! - Anita
