[Maine-birds] Caspian Terns - Acadia: Blueberry Hill

My wife and I are fairly confident that we had two CASPIAN TERNs this afternoon around 2:45 just off the parking area at the Schoodic's Blueberry Hill.

saw a bird dive hard into the water and instantly thought tern, as I watched it come up and take off again I quickly noticed its large size. It was much bigger than the COMMON TERNs I am used to seeing. I then pointed it out to my wife who kept an eye on it as I looked in the field guide to get some idea of what type of tern it was. At this point we noticed that there was actually two of them. We both noted the large solidly red bill, the lack of tail streamers, dark underwings and some white "streaking" on the otherwise black cap.

We watched both birds for a long while as they dove and took off. We were able to compare their save to a nearby HERRING GULL, of which they were smaller but close in size.

Unfortunately we were unable to get any pictures of value.
