[Maine-birds] Northern Maine Birds: White-fronted Goose, Pink-footed Goose, Pine Grosbeaks

As Kyle noted the Pink-footed Goose continues.  I got down to Mars Hill this afternoon and it slept the whole time I was there:

The Canada Goose flock at Lake Josephine in Easton has reached a season high with over 3,000 geese on the pond now.  With my scope zoomed all the way up, I was able to pick out a sleeping Greater White-fronted Goose in the horde.  Unlike the Pinkfoot, this bird eventually woke up and let me get a distant digiscope.  Buffleheads, Black Scoters and a lingering Redhead were the other goodies here:

Earlier this AM, I braved the woods full of excited deer hunters and birded the Blackstone Siding Road in Westmanland.  It was quite finchy with first-of -fall Pine Grosbeaks, my first Snow Bunting of the season, lots of Boreal Chickadees and a few Gray Jays.  http://ebird.org/ebird/me/view/checklist?subID=S25648231

Other notables today were a flock of Bohemian Waxwings feeding on Mt Ash berries and some flyover Evening Grosbeaks in Sinclair and a Northern Shrike on the Flat Mountain Road in St. Agatha.

Birdwise, its getting wintery up here.

Good Birding
