The Penobscot Valley Chapter of Maine Audubon enjoyed a boreal birding trip into the North Maine Woods today, mostly around the Telos Road area above the Golden Road. It’s gotten really, really, really noisy with crossbills up there. They were a distraction from the spruce grouse, gray jays, boreal chickadees, and American three-toed woodpecker we encountered. Dipped on black-backed woodpecker, I’m sorry to say.
