Hi all,
Well, that was awesome! An exceptional flight passed over and through Sandy Point Beach, Cousin's Island, Yarmouth this morning. After several nights of little to no migration, the radar absolutely exploded after sunset last night. Despite light winds, often registering as calm, overnight, there were just so many birds in the air that drifted enough of course to need to compensate at dawn. Then, with a northwesterly breeze puffing right at sunrise, conditions were perfect at Sandy Point. The problem today was that there were so many birds, wave after wave, in every direction: high, low, east, west. While there was plenty landing in the trees, groups departed the point or streaming overhead. At many times, I elected to forgo even attempting to identify birds, and simply count the masses in an effort to correctly quantify the event. And I have no doubt I missed a lot of birds today, especially those very high overhead. I
