These reports are published in "Bird Observer" with our gratitude. If you are not yet a subscriber, please consider supporting this fine journal, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year (link at URL above).
The work of the committee is driven by the hard work of Becky Marvil, who has been secretary for several years now. Thank you, Becky, for all you do!
Please submit your notes, photos, and other media for archive and review to Becky (link on our Web site). Any species not on the official state list and any on our review list, marked with an asterisk, should be documented and sent to Becky. This includes the Black-bellied Whistling-Ducks now in Camden. Last dates for continuing birds are especially important to document (not simply with the word "continuing").
The Official State List is here:
https://sites.google.com/site/mainebirdrecordscommittee/official-list-of-maine-birds
Species new to Maine in 2021 include the following: Barolo Shearwater, Masked Booby, Steller's Sea-Eagle, and Redwing. In addition, the recent split of Mew Gull added one to the state's total, as both Common Gull and Short-billed Gull had previously been accepted as subspecies of Mew Gull. This brings the state list to 468.
