Highlights Jeff Webb and I found this afternoon were 2 GREEN HERON, 1 adult & 1 juvenile (see attached photo), 20+ GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 10+ BLUE-WINGED TEAL, a NORTHERN HARRIER and an immature MERLIN hawking insects and then perching on snags to eat them.
Also seen were the PIED-BILLED GREBE family reported here earlier by David Small. There were only 3 young that I could see, one markedly larger than the other 2 and having a more independent attitude, swimming by itself or with Mallards while its siblings begged food from the parent by shaking their heads from side to side.
NO Great Egrets seen today.
