[Maine-birds] Great Day of Birding on Kaler St. in Winterport

There were several birders here at the end of the street today who came to look for the White-winged Dove.  All managed to see it, for some it took more time than others.  The WWDO was last seen at approximately 3:30pm, first seen at 8am.  It came and went from the feeder area in our yard throughout the day, always associated with a flock of from 10 to 30 Mourning Doves.  At one point, while perched in a pine tree, it was attacked by a MODO which jumped on the WWDO's back.
Some of the other birds today include my first Tree Sparrows of the season, a female Red-Bellied Woodpecker, and a female Evening Grosbeak.  A Brown Creeper was spotted by Bruce Barker and was a new "yard bird" here.  A big thank you Bruce as this has long been a nemesis yard bird for me.  An immature male or female type Baltimore Oriole was seen a few times today and there are 6 Red-winged Blackbirds still around.  Finally an Orange-crowned Warbler was a really nice surprise, first spotted by Bruce, Nancy Larson and Bob Brown while I was taking a bathroom break in the house (why does it always seem to happen that way?)  Fortunately, I did get to see it a few minutes later and another big thanks because I know I would have missed it completely.  28 species in all.

Good Birding,
John
