Hi all,
Andy Aldrich just called to report that he and Ken James have found and photographed a NORTHERN LAPWING on the Tuckahoe Sod Farm off of Hubbard Road in Berwick (Delorme Map 2: E2).
The bird was seen in flight as of 11:45, but had flew away on at least one occassion before returning to the same recently-tilled field. The entrance to the turf farm is on the east side of Hubbard Road. Drive down that road and park somewhere before an irrigation system (I hope I understand this correctly), do not block the road and DO NOT PARK ON THE GRASS. The tilled field is just beyond a long weedy border, and there is a blue tractor in this field.
Unfortunately, the tilled field cannot be seen from Hubbard Road, but birders are welcome to enter the farm, at least on weekends when machinery is not in use. Please be very careful to not walk or park on the grass, and carpooling to limit traffic is highly recommended. Please respect the property, and all nearby private property.
Any tilled corn fields in the area should also be checked, and if there are any cattle pastures nearby, I would recommend check those carefully as well.
Good luck!
-Derek
