A very late female Rose-breasted Grosbeak in the yard today. This bird had buffy wash over the breast and sides with no hint of the pink wing linings of a first-year male RBGR. I tried hard to make this bird into a Black-headed Grosbeak, but the streaking across the center of the breast and the pale bill leave me with a buffy female RBGR. Pretty cool to have one of these in Maine in November. Will try for a photo if she comes back.
