Re: [Maine-birds] Stilt Updates?

The bird was there through early mid-morning not long after Leon's post. It was foraging in the distant pannes that are difficult to see well from the Eastern trail and could be overlooked.

From the big tree on the trail near these shallow pools, scan the far pannes both right and left (looking southeast, the railroad in the distance). There is a duck blind at the right end of the left pool used at times by the stilt. This pool extends left over to the big shrubby island out there. To the right of straight out (perpendicular to the trail) is the other large pool it favored. There isn't much in the way of landmarks for that, and the bird could easily disappear behind grass in that area. Occasionally the bird would fly from one pool to the other while calling, an incessant yap, yap, yap.
