[Maine-birds] Hermit Island - Phippsburg - Sep 06

Birded early morning expecting a better flight.  Predicted light N or NW winds were lighter than expected.  It FAC this morning (and all night near as I could tell).  What birds were here were no doubt residuals from earlier migration.  But some interesting ones, nonetheless.

- Orchard Oriole, female
- Yellow Bellied Fly, very bright, colorful bird
- 2 Solitary Sandpipers in mud puddle in a campsite that drains poorly. Remained for 3 hours
- RTHummer - hawking mid-air insects
- Philly Vireo - one very bright bird
- REVireo; the dominant passerine, at least 18 seen - most assoc with apple trees
- 11 spp. of warblers, incl 2 No Waterthrushes
- 1 female Scarlet Tanager
- 3 RBGrosbeaks
- 3 Balt Orioles

Best way to bird Hermit I. this time of year is simply to camp there.  Off-season rates prevail.
