[Maine-birds] Narraguagus River above Cherryfield

This morning, 6:15-10 AM I kayaked above the dam off Stillwater Rd.

This is always a beautiful trip, totally pristine, with plenty of common birds (list below). The avian highlight was the sight of 6-8 Chimney Swifts skimming low over the water and apparently picking off insects, behavior I have never seen or heard of before. I don't think they were drinking, or only drinking, because they were skimming for a good distance just above the water before dipping down. Also, I think I could see something in their beaks as they lifted up.

For mammals all I saw were Muskrats, but I had great looks at 4, including one that allowed me to float to within 3-4 feet.

Other birds seen (that I can remember):
Great Blue Heron
Belted Kingfisher
Catbird
Cedar Waxwing
Several common warblers
Song Sparrow
Goldfinch
Purple Finch

Many others were heard only, and (all too typically for me) a few seen were un-ID'd.
