[Maine-birds] Newfie quiz. It's over.

We have two winners.  It’s a species we all tend to overlook, I think:  Savannah Sparrow.
Gumball award goes to Chris Bartlett (full credit) and Stu Tingley (almost full credit - had to decide between Am Pipit and Savannah Sparrow; got close.)

There were some great runners-up.  Those who immediately eschewed seabirds and considered the habitat at Cape Spear, suggested Spotted Sandpiper, American Pipit, or some other sparrow.

Lisa Dellwo asked: How about one vote for irony? English Sparrow.

and John Wyatt even stuck his neck way out and tried Rock Pigeon, “seeking their ancestral roots on the rocky cliffs.”

All of these runners-up could very well be winners if this contest is repeated next year.  The Savannah Sparrow was heard singing, evidence of territoriality, and carrying food, evidence of caring for newly-hatched.  I’ll circulate a photo later.  It was exactly AT the limit of the Tussock Grass (or whatever that thick green stuff is) and left no room for another to squeeze between it and the rocks, sloping down to the water.  The rocks here, don’t seem right for Blk Guillemots or any other alcid.

But Rock Pigeons??  Hm-m-m-m.
