RE: [Maine-birds] Bobwhite in Thomaston

Several folks have mentioned hearing/seeing Bobwhite in various spots around Warren/Thomaston area this summer. These are likely birds that have liberated themselves from a local game farm here in Warren. They are definitely a fun species to hear on an early morning.

I stood by Lyman-Morse ship builders in Thomaston looking for shorebirds about 10:45 this morning, and finding very little to see, when I heard the distinctive call of a Bobwhite. He called repeatedly, and I was able to tell that he was across the river. So I drove over the bridge, and turned onto Sunrise Terrace and heard him again behind the house at #52. It’s all private property there, and I didn’t trespass; so I didn’t actually see him. But this bird was persistent in his calling. It’s probably an escape, but does anyone have any thoughts about it? There was an earlier report of one this summer, but I forget where.
